Greenville is 38 miles northeast of our Rowlett office, most of it straight up I-30. It is the Hunt County seat, about 28,000 people, and it holds two completely different generations of roof.
The houses around Lee and Washington Streets near the courthouse square mostly went up before 1920, and those roofs are complicated: steep pitch, narrow valleys and brick chimneys, where it is usually the flashing that gave out rather than the shingles. Greenville’s other housing generation went up around Majors Field in the fifties and sixties, and those ranch houses have long, low slopes that hail bruises across a wide area instead of in one obvious spot. On the old ones we spend the time at the chimney and the valleys. On the ranch houses we walk the whole slope, because a wide, shallow bruise pattern does not show up in a spot check. We do commercial work here as well, mostly along Wesley Street, which is Highway 34 where it runs north and south through town.
